Glitch Skyscrapper
The Glitch skyscraper, designed by architect Rami Harkous, stands near Beirut Port, the site of a massive explosion in 2020. The aftermath of the disaster left the city in disarray, with irregular voids in facades and temporary solutions to house residents. Rami's design aimed to highlight the significance of Beirut's context and create a sense of identity and belonging among its residents. The skyscraper's elevation incorporates elements and geometries inspired by the city's post-explosion scene, using a fully glazed facade with sun breakers and louvers for shading and temperature control. Cantilevering platforms on the north and south facades act as visual connectors, recalling a significant event and providing public spaces. The ground levels are designed for public access, shops, and social activities, uplifting the surroundings. The Glitch skyscraper symbolizes hope, resilience, and Beirut's unbreakable spirit.
